Expect to see a lot more of Jadis and her Heapsters (also affectionately dubbed The Junkyard Gang and The Garbage Pail Kids) when The Walking Dead returns to AMC for its 8th season this fall; Pollyanna McIntosh, who plays the leader of the unhygienic mono-syllabics, has been promoted from guest star to series regular in Scott Gimple’s zombie apocalypse megahit. The announcement came via TVGuide.com and includes news on a couple other promotions.
TVGuide.com has confirmed that McIntosh has been promoted to series regular in Season 8, along with Steven Ogg, who plays Negan’s (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) right-hand man Simon and Katelyn Nacon, who plays teenage survivor Enid — and who has a bit of a will they/won’t they relationship with Carl (Chandler Riggs).
Jadis and her crew turned traitors during the season 7 finale, but she left what many consider a mea culpa in the form of a small carved figurine with a characteristically terse missive: “Didn’t Know”. Presumably, Jadis didn’t know Negan was such a sadistic asshole when she made a deal to help him sack Alexandria in exchange for 12 slaves (we assume). So while The Heapsters may be personas non grata at the moment, the door is opened for reconciliation—and Rick (Andrew Lincoln) is going to need all the help he can get since we’re headed into all-out war.
We’re glad to see Simon will pop up more often in Season 8; he’s always impressed us as a character whose equal parts statesman and extortionist.
The fact that Enid is being promoted to series regular is perhaps a telling move. While her implied relationship with Carl (Chandler Riggs) has always been a source of moderate interest, many have already pegged her as a potential mole for the Saviors. We never did learn the identity of the “little bird” who told Negan Alexandria was revolting (it’s easy to assume it’s Gregory, played by Xander Berkeley, but it could be anyone really).
What do you think about these cast promotions? Are you looking forward to seeing more of Jadis, Simon, and Enid in Season 8? And what are the implications of these characters becoming more prominent in the storyline? Let’s discuss in the Comments section!
