While 20th Century franchises like Child’s Play, Puppet Master, and Leprechaun having successfully transitioned and flourished in the 21st Century, the iconic series A Nightmare on Elm Street has yet to be successfully re-launched in the 2000s. It’s almost unfathomable, considering the legions of fans and the enduring presence of Freddy Krueger as a villain of supreme prominence.
Luckily, the further misadventures of the Springwood Slasher have continued in fan-films; though entertaining, they usually vary in quality. A trio of faux trailers for a non-existent film, Nightmare: Return to Elm Street, however, look better than anything we’ve seen in ages. Each looks completely professional, offering a unique spin of pre-established Krueger mythologies while offering a truly inventive hook for a reboot.
The brainchild of Domonic Smith, give the trailers for Nightmare: Return to Elm Street a spin below. In their entirety, they feel almost like a short film. When a police officer’s youngest daughter begins talking to an invisible friend she calls “Pizza Face”, calamity ensues! If you’re like me, Return to Elm Street will rise to the top of your list of films that you wish were real!
