A “surprise” trailer released for a new Addams Family series on Netflix had a lot of people on Facebook jumping for joy this weekend. Too bad it’s completely fake.
That being said, it’s a brilliant forgery, one that looks completely legit and even includes hyperlinks to actual Netflix trailers. But those with a more than cursory knowledge of the modern horror landscape can easily dissect this imposter’s components: Crimson Peak, Penny Dreadful, The Blackcoat’s Daughter, and (of course) the first two Addams Family movies. Have a look and I’ll think you’ll agree: It looks pretty damn good, actually!

Of course, the response to the trailer proves something significant: That there is definitely an audience for a rebooted Addams Family. And while converting horror movies into TV shows is a popular trend, producers might want to consider past horror properties that were actually designed for the small screen. Before the movies in 1991 & 1993, the creepy spooky kooky family ran as a serial from 1964 through 1956. Gomez, Morticia, and the crew popped up throughout the 1970’s on variety shows and cartoons before landing their own animated series in the early 90s. The clan got a Canadian reboot as The New Adams Family in the late 1990s.
