Today we bring you “Top 10 Most Haunted Places Investigated on TLC’s Paranormal Lockdown” according to Nick Groff and Katrina Weidman.
On TLC’s Paranormal Lockdown Nick and Katrina will spend 72 hours locked inside haunted locations – actually living there around the clock – in an effort to capture groundbreaking paranormal evidence. No stone goes unturned for Nick and Katrina, who believe that the longer they stay confined in a haunted location, the more spirits will communicate with them. The season premiere takes them inside the forbidding Monroe House in Hartford City, Ind., where dark ghostly encounters and evidence of ritualistic occult activity have left the home uninhabitable. The investigation culminates with Nick unearthing what appeared to be skeletal remains, and the heart-pounding discovery was captured on camera. Local law enforcement was notified immediately.

Don’t’ forget Paranormal Lockdown airs Fridays at 9/8c on TLC
1. Hinsdale House – Hinsdale, New York
Hidden in rural northwestern New York, one abandoned house stands apart from the rest on a dirt road on the edge of town. For more than a hundred years, a dark infestation has possessed the hills and forests that surround Hinsdale House, while something more sinister has driven families from the home for generations. The legend – or was it a magnetic non-human force? – drew Nick and Katrina to see for themselves what’s haunting Hinsdale House. During their 72-hour confinement, they faced overwhelming malevolent energy in the house and surrounding forest. Nick captured electronic voice phenomena saying “There is no heaven,” and was specifically targeted with physical attacks and a psychological battle that he still feels the effects of to this day.
2. Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum – Weston, West Virginia
It was Katrina’s first time inside Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum, the enormous, abandoned and totally haunted facility. For Nick, it was a return to the place where he had one of his most profound paranormal experiences. Back in 2009 during a one-night investigation, Nick encountered what he would later describe as a shadow figure on the fourth floor. Returning for 72 hours on Paranormal Lockdown gave him a chance to encounter that spirit once again but, as they say, be careful what you wish for. On their third night of confinement, Nick and Katrina captured video evidence of something that can only be described as groundbreaking, incredible and completely terrifying: a large snake-like form slithering across the room.
3. Black Monk House – Pontefract, England
A year after investigating a demonic presence at Hinsdale House, Nick still felt lingering effects of the harrowing encounter. Hauntings escalated in his own home, and both he and Katrina started experiencing nightmares that all pointed them toward another haunted location: the Black Monk House in Pontefract, England. They finally traveled to the haunted house at 30 East Drive, home to the world’s most notorious poltergeist haunting, to see for themselves what evil was trapped there. Stretching themselves physically and mentally for the longest paranormal investigation ever televised, Nick and Katrina spent 100 hours locked in the Black Monk House, in an attempt to come face to face with the dangerously violent demonic entity, and rid themselves of it forever.
4. Shrewsbury Prison – Shrewsbury, England
Nick and Katrina continued their stay in England to investigate what spirits linger at a 220-year-old prison. Built in 1793, Shrewsbury Prison hosted daily public hangings in its early years of operation, burying the countless dead on the prison grounds. Just as the inmates were fated to never step outside of the prison walls again, their spirits appear to be similarly shackled to the property. Guards frequently refused duty on the most haunted wings, after hearing terrifying noises in the night, and seeing shadow figures. Closed as a corrections facility in 2013, Nick and Katrina were among the first to be locked in Shrewsbury Prison since its closure, willingly incarcerated in one of England’s most horrid haunts for 72 hours. They later said it was the most haunted prison they’ve ever investigated.
5. Monroe House –New Hartford, Indiana
Lured to Monroe, Indiana by reports of unexplainable phenomena, Nick and Katrina got more than they bargained for while investigating this one hundred-year old house. Neighbors have reported ghastly apparitions appearing in windows of the unoccupied house, and the home’s owner has considered it a loss since construction workers fled the property, fearing for their lives. The genesis of the haunting is unclear, but three fires and resulting deaths in the last century have not served to quell paranormal activity within the home. Paranormal evidence captured during Nick and Katrina’s intense exploration of Monroe House culminated with the discovery of what appeared to be human remains beneath the home in a crawl space. The discovery was turned over to local law enforcement and is still being researched.
6. Rampart St. Murder House –New Orleans, Louisiana
One floor above a voodoo shop known for honing spiritual energy, the Rampart Street Murder House was famously haunted for decades before it became the location of a gruesome murder. Unexplainable footsteps, darting shadows, and the apparition of a little boy all frightened previous tenants, but just after Hurricane Katrina, the dark crime inside made national news. On the tenth anniversary of the strangulation and dismemberment of a woman by her boyfriend, Nick and Katrina returned to the scene where original items from the crime still remain.
7. Waverly Hills – Louisville, Kentucky
Waverly Hills Sanatorium is one of the country’s most notoriously haunted locations. It was Katrina’s first time visiting the paranormal mecca – a culmination of 10-years of research and anticipation – while Nick returned for the third time to revisit past experiences. This time, they came armed with a full arsenal of state-of-the-art investigative equipment to capture evidence of shadow figures lurking on the third and fourth floors. The morgue and body chute in the bellows of the gothic building, where more than eight thousand corpses were sent to their final resting place, gave Nick and Katrina more than they bargained for with loud unexplainable noises and the sound of shuffling feet. They even captured incredible footage on the thermo-camera of a mysterious figure moving past a doorway while Nick and Katrina were visibly on another floor of the building.
8. St. Ignatius Hospital – Colfax, Washington
St. Ignatius Hospital has been abandoned since 2003, but workers and passersby claim it is hardly uninhabited. Lurking shadows and disembodied shrieks reported echoing through the halls have increased of late and shaken the small wheat farming community. The town director reached out to Nick and Katrina for help, and they checked in for 72 hours to diagnose the source and nature of the haunting, immersing themselves among the countless souls that passed away within the 120-year-old building. However, as darkness fell over the small town of Colfax, they soon discovered they were not the only ones working the night shift at St. Ignatius Hospital. They repeatedly encountered the spirit of a former patient named Richard and captured incredible paranormal evidence around the clock, even during the day. The location’s deteriorating physical condition and resident bat population only adds to its forebodingness.
9. Statler City Hotel – Buffalo, New York
In the largest location Nick and Katrina have ever investigated to date, the 18-story Statler City Hotel is the former “Grand Dame of Buffalo.” It once played host to presidents, jazz legends, and the upper crust, but the secrets buried in its seedy underbelly by notorious mobsters are dying to get out. After wedding guests were horrified when an apparition appeared in a photograph, Nick and Katrina pursued the link between the glamorous Terrace Room, and the decrepit Turkish Bath immediately below it. Their state-of-the-art equipment revealed the possible story of a mob victim killed in the hotel’s nightclub.
10. Anderson Hotel – Lawrenceburg, Kentucky
When the Anderson Hotel closed its doors, not everyone checked out. The spirits of some of the former flophouse residents, whose tragic suicides mirrored their bleak lives, are said to haunt the rooms. Among these spirits resides a dark entity that unleashes vicious attacks on the living. Over their confinement, Nick and Katrina watched helplessly as their cameraman Rob Saffi was savagely bitten by an unseen force. With the hotel taking a toll on their physical and physiological states, Nick and Katrina risked harm to cast out the negative entity with cleansing sage. As their 72 hour stay came to an end, Nick and Katrina felt the air in the Anderson Hotel become noticeably lighter. But only time will tell if the hotel has been released from its ghostly chains.
