Much ado is being made over the fact that Netflix has yet to officially greenlight a second seasons of their hit horror/sci-fi series Stranger Things. Let me fill you in on a little secret: It’s definitely going to happen. No, I don’t have an inside source, just the common sense to realize that Netflix would be stupid not to continue what has been, far and away, their most successful original series. I even suspect that Stranger Things Season 2 is currently in production, on the down-low.
Why else would series executive producers Ross and Matt Duffer be talking so much about what comes next for Will Byers, Jim Hopper, and Eleven? In a recent interview with ING, the brothers discussed a timeline and logistics for Season 2. They revealed the next season will take place 1 year after the events of Season 1. It makes sense where you consider the bulk of the cast is still in the throes of puberty, making an immediate continuation complicated; it would be like, “Oh hey, Dustin’s teeth grew in and Eleven has boobs—overnight!”
To bridge the 2 seasons while cluing fans into important events they may have missed, the Duffers are keen to launch a storytelling video game. Ross states: “…What I really want is a video game.” Matt continues: “Like an 8-bit… These fans, a lot of them have done this 8-bit video game art that’s blowing my mind.”
The idea is steeped in the same kind of nostalgia for the 1980’s that is Stranger Things’ hallmark. How well this video game idea will play out remains to be seen.
Obviously, we’ll keep you posted as details emerge. In the meantime, the video below features Winona Ryder and Millie Bobby Brown talking about the show’s incredible successes.
