Remember Bill Freeburg, the “Jason Mewes” clone and 2-dimensional stoner stereotype played by Kyle Labine in Freddy vs Jason? Apparently, screenwriters Damian Shannon and Mark Swift originally wrote this character much differently. Sure, he was always intended to be a midnight toker, but there was something transcendent about him, a subtle wisdom that made him much more like the Marty character (played by Fran Kranz) from Cabin in the Woods.
The revelation comes from Shannon and Swift themselves; the creative duo shared the original character description from Freddy vs Jason today vis Twitter. The biggest revelation, actually, is the fact that Freeburg was supposed to be Asian. Have a look-see.

FREEBURG: 17-18. Asian. Freeburg isn’t your typical stoner. Yes, he loves weed. Yes, he provides drugs to his pals. Yes, he’s on a different wavelength, but he’s not the incessantly chuckling idiot stoner we’ve seen so many times before. There’s a sort of Zen quality to Freeburg. He’s curious and interesting. Through everything that happens, he never loses his cool. Sure, he gets afraid [sic], but he believes things are gonna turn out all right. And you know what? He’s right. He just doesn’t live to see it happen.
Considering the character was derided by fans (and even Mewes himself) I think director Ronny Yu should have stuck to the script! What do you think about these revelations regarding Freeburg? Let’s discuss in the comments section! And check out the trailer and synopsis for Freddy vs Jason below.
Official Synopsis: Two horror icons face off in this supernatural movie. Disfigured serial killer Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund), who attacks his victims in their dreams, has lost much of his power since citizens of his town have become less afraid of him. Enlisting the help of fellow violent murderer Jason Voorhees (Ken Kirzinger), Freddy orchestrates a new killing spree. However, when the hockey-mask-wearing psychopath won’t stop chopping up Freddy’s intended victims, the two ghouls start to battle each other.
