As Walking Dead fans continue to suffer through a second week of withdrawals since Season 7’s midseason finale, theorizing and postulating about what we can expect when the show returns in February is soothing consolation. We’ve been having thrilling discussions about the possible identity of the man/woman in the boots, but there’s another question posed in the past half-season that’s been buzzing through fan forums: What happens when a person eats zombie-fed pork?
Remember the pigs from Episode 2? King Ezekiel (Khary Payton) and his crew rounded up a bunch of feral pigs and forced them to eat a few zombies; the pigs were then butchered and handed off to The Saviors as part of their slavery tax. All of us watching had a good grossed-out giggle at Ezekiel’s little prank, imagining the Negan (Jeffery Dean Morgan) and company eating icky zombie-fed ham sandwiches—but is that all it was? A prank? A fuck you to the Saviors? Something to laugh about with the homies back at the Kingdom? Of is this part of a bigger plan?
Which brings us back to the question above: What happens when a person eats zombie-fed pork? Theories range from a potential outbreak to explosive diarrhea, but YouTuber N U I M B E D examines the role pigs have played in past seasons of TWD. It’s a thoroughly insightful examination that suggests these infected pigs are indeed more than just a sick prank.
