In the world of AMC’s The Walking Dead, the concept called the “death speech”; it was first explored by YouTuber BrokenRobot3000: A “death speech” is a Walking Dead trope where the show gives an endearing speech to a character right before killing them off (Source). If there’s truth to this phenomenon, it may be safe to assume that Sasha (played by Sonequa Martin) gave her death speech last night.

The moment came early in Episode 14, The Other Side, when Sasha was confronted by Jesus (Tom Payne) as she pilfered bullets for a dangerous mission to assassinate Negan (Jeffery Dean Morgan). She proclaimed her commitment to her quest and refused Jesus’s attempts at pacification. It was a triumphant speech, one in which she declared Maggie (Lauren Cohan) the future of The Hilltop. It was absolutely the proclamation of a warrior planning to leave it all on the battlefield. Indeed, Sasha seemed completely ready to sacrifice herself at the episode’s conclusion, although her ultimate fate is left unknown.
Of course, Martin has been cast as the lead in NBC’s Star Trek: Discovery, a fact that has led many (including myself) to believe Sasha’s death has been a foregone conclusion for weeks.
