A couple months ago, we brought you the trailer for HBO’s upcoming documentary Beware the Slenderman. To recap:
In Wisconsin back in 2014, two female pre-pubescents lured a classmate into the woods where they stabbed her 19 times. The perpetrators were reportedly attempting to curry favor with the ominous Slenderman, hoping, in fact, that he would take them to live in his lair. Obviously, the media pounced, drawn as much by the case’s brutal details as the urban legends that surround them.
HBO will be airing Beware the Slenderman, a documentary that chronicles events surrounding the 2014 stabbing, on January 23rd. Check out the trailer below.
Now, we’re getting word from a Deadline Exclusive that a fictionalized Slenderman movie, Slender Man, is in the works at Screen Gems; the studio plans to go before the cameras this spring.
EXCLUSIVE: Sylvain White has been set to direct Slender Man, the Screen Gems thriller that will begin production by the spring. White made his feature directing debut with Screen Gems on the sleeper hit Stomp the Yard, and also directed The Losers. Scripted by David Birke, Slender Man revolves around a tall, thin horrifying figure with unnaturally long arms and a featureless fact, who is reputed to be responsible for the haunting and disappearance of countless children and teens.
Obviously, the project is in its infancy, so we’ll keep you posted as additional details emerge. Stay tuned!
