With the unofficial stoner holiday 4/20 right around the corner (April 20th), weed tokers and horror fans may be looking for the perfect films to bring the two worlds together. And while there are many genre flicks that one might characterize as “stoney”, and even more that feature spliff ripping teenagers, there are very few horror movies that are specifically about marijuana; if for no other reason, this makes the Evil Bong films notable.
First launched by Charles Band in 2006, there are actually 6 films in the Evil Bong franchise—plus a crossover! This means that it’s outlasted other profitable and important franchises by a long shot. They all feature the titular “possessed” water pipe (except for Part 2), voiced by Michele Mais. In addition to stoner icon Tommy Chong, the first Evil Bong film also includes cameos from Poison frontman Bret Michaels and horror icon Bill Moseley (The Devil’s Rejects).
While I can’t in good conscious recommend an Evil Bong marathon, each one contains a hefty helping of lowest-common-denominator comedy—which might be exactly what you’re looking for. Whether you’re daring enough to take the plunge or simply curious about how there can be 7 movies about an evil bong, you can check out the trailers and synopses for each installment below.
Spark one up, dudes!
