After the disastrous Martyrs remake of 2016, critics like myself deemed films considered part of the New French Extremity are un-adaptable. This didn’t stop another production company from tackling another gem of this exceptionally brutal subgenre that peaked in the 2000s.
Inside (aka À l’intérieur), directed by Alexandre Bustillo & Julien Maury and released in 2007, is another paradigm has been remade for English-speaking filmgoers. The remake, which premiered at Sitges in 2016, is directed by Miguel Ángel Vivas, based on a screenplay penned by REC scribes Jaume Balagueró and Manu Díez. The film stars Rachel Nichols (The Loop, Tokarev, Fantastic Four) and Laura Harring (Mulholland Drive, Inland Empire, Love in the Time of Cholera, The Punisher).
