One of my favorite movies of 2013 was the impeccable UK chiller Lord of Tears from director Lawrie Brewster from a script penned by Sarah Daly. It’s an extremely atmospheric tale of family curses and unattainable love that introduces one of the most unique and unnerving villains of the 21st Century: The Owlman (also the name of Lord of Tears’ re-release). Those who never experienced this brilliant supernatural, deeply Gothic romp can now see it for free at Hex Media’s official website, HERE.
Official Synopsis: Lord of Tears tells the story of James Findlay, a school teacher plagued by recurring nightmares of a mysterious and unsettling entity. Suspecting that his visions are linked to a dark incident in his past, James returns to his childhood home, a notorious mansion in the Scottish Highlands, where he uncovers the disturbing truth behind his dreams and must fight to survive the brutal consequences of his curiosity.
From yesterday’s Press Release:
On its original release in 2013, Lord of Tears quickly earned cult classic status, with fans and critics alike enjoying the film’s creeping dread, as well as the complex twists and turns of the story. The film won the audience award at the Bram Stoker International Film Festival and screened at Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival, Belfast Film Festival and many more.
Director Lawrie Brewster has just released a brand new Special Edition of the film, boasting a complete re-edit and brand new sound design.
According to Lawrie “We’ve produced a couple more films now since the original Lord of Tears, and we wanted to apply the lessons we’ve learned to our debut feature. I felt that Lord of Tears deserved a revisit, and I believe that with this new Special Edition, we’ve created the best possible version of the film. Now we’re just eager to share it with fans of the genre.”
Brewster, Daly, and Hex Media went on to helm that vastly successful PTSD shocker The Unkindness of Ravens in 2016. You can check out the trailer and synopsis for that film below.
Official Synopsis: A homeless veteran battles to survive against his demons in the remote Highlands of Scotland.
