Universal’s planned Dark Universe of rebooted monster movies may be unraveling before it even begins, owing to extremely tepid reviews of The Mummy; what was planned as a triumphant launch crashed and burned shortly after takeoff when the film hit US Theaters last Friday. Look, I take no joy in reveling in the failures of an overly-hyped movie, but writing a review that wasn’t a complete hatchet-job was no easy task. As is often the case, the trailers for The Mummy were fantastic, but hardly represented the actualities of what moviegoers were in store for. Official Synopsis: Nick Morton is a soldier of fortune who plunders ancient sites for timeless artifacts and sells them to the highest bidder. When Nick and his partner come under attack in the Middle East, the ensuing battle accidentally unearths Ahmanet, a betrayed Egyptian princess who was entombed under the desert for thousands of years. With her powers constantly evolving, Morton must now stop the resurrected monster as she embarks on a furious rampage through the streets of London.
The Mummy is directed by Alex Kurtzman and stars Tom Cruise, Sofia Boutella, and Annabelle Wallis.
