Horror movies have been invading the world of video games since the first Atari units hit the market in the 1980s, but 2017 saw a resurgence. Friday the 13th: The Game has dominated the survival horror landscape, and Leatherface and Michael Myers recently received digital reincarnations via Dead by Daylight. Did you know there’s an entire YouTube channel dedicated to adding video game “healthbars” to some of cinema’s most epic battle scenes? You know what I’m talking about, those life-meters that first appeared in one-on-one combat games like Mortal Kombat. While they tackle all genres, the ones that feature horror movie throw-downs are, of course, most interesting to us.
You’ll be surprised just how much the healthbars add to the excitement and tension of these battles—even if we already know the outcome. Check out Freddy vs Jason, Alien vs Predator, and King Kong vs The Skull Crawler (from Kong: Skull Island) in the clips below. Enjoy!
About With Healthbars on YouTube: Hey guys, I add healthbars and other effects to fights scenes from comic book, superhero, action movies, and such because I think it makes them more entertaining. If you have any request or ideas leave them in the comment section and I’ll take a look at them. I should be uploading 1 to 3 videos every month from the MCU and DCCU and DCAU and other franchises I like. Enjoy.
