Yesterday, we saw the first trailer for Tom Holland’s Rock Paper Dead, and it looks fantastic! The fact that it’s Holland’s first time back behind the camera for a full-length feature since 1992’s Thinner is exciting enough, but have you looked at the cast list? I mean really, really looked at it? Granted, I usually go beyond information on press releases by checking IMDB, but what’s revealed is pretty incredible.

While Rock Paper Dead features well-known actors Michael Madsen, Tatum O’Neal, and Maureen McCormick, the full cast list reveals the film is essentially a reunion for a couple key players from the original Friday the 13th, released in 1980. Rock Paper Dead is co-written by original Friday scribe Victor Miller and he’ll appear in the film with a cameo as “The Man in Overalls”.
Okay, that might not be earth-shattering by itself, but the cast of Rock Paper Dead also includes Ari Lehman, the first actor to ever play Jason Voorhees, immortalized in perhaps the best jump-scare in horror movie history! Lehman is playing a character named Jason (of course!).
What most fans will never know is that there was supposed to be another Jason in Rock Paper Dead; initially, Kane Hodder, the actor/stuntman most associated with the iconic hockey mask, was slated to appear alongside Lehman as a pair of hospital orderlies. Sounds like it could have been a hysterical, Abbot & Costello style moment but, alas, we’ll never know.
A quick message to Lehman got confirmation that, while Hodder was meant to participate in the production, it just wasn’t meant to be:
