Fans of American Horror Story are on pins and needles anticipating the return of Ryan Murphy’s seminal anthology series next week. American Horror Story: Cult, the 7th season., begins on September 5th. When Murphy announced months back that this chapter is based on the US presidential election of 2016, fans were divided. While AHS has core followers who will give anything Murphy producers a whirl, many casual fans were dismayed and disappointed.
While we weren’t privy to advanced screeners in this case, other outlets have seen the entire season, and reviews are hitting the net. While not universally positive, Dominic Patten from Deadline promises Cult is bloodier than just about any previous season—which is goof new for horror fans! Grounded in an adrenalized version of the divisive reality that currently coats the country, the 11-episode seventh season finds an increasingly anxious Paulson and new cast member and Fargo alum Alison Pill as the almost too easily mockable, Rachel Maddow-loving married proprietors of an upscale restaurant. With secrets coming to the surface, the duo and their young son find themselves battling neighbors including a dramatically talented and bee-keeping Billy Eichner, a treacherous nanny as played by fellow AHS newcomer Billie Lourd, and all their worst fears about what Trump’s America is – or not.
