“Boomstick: $199.99, Shells: 39.99, Zombies heads blowing off: priceless.”
Now that both seasons of Starz’ megahit Ash vs Evil Dead are available on DVD, fans are getting pumped up for what comes next for Ashy Slashy (Bruce Campbell) and his motley crew. While Season 2 ended on a somewhat optimistic note, we’ve been told to expect big changes and terrifying challenges for Ash when Season 3 arrives sometime this October.
First, the changes: Showrunner Craig DiGregorio has parted ways with the production and will be replaced by Mark Verheiden, producer of Battlestar Galactica and Netflix’s Daredevil. The change has to do with stylistic differences of opinion: While DiGregorio was big on pushing the comic elements of Ash vs Evil Dead, long-time franchise co-owner Rob Tapert wants to steer the show back towards straight up horror.
As for challenges our hero will face in Season 3, Campbell states:
“We’re probably going to crack more into Ash’s big picture story. He is foretold in an ancient book. He’s not just some guy in a crappy trailer home. There is a myth to Ash, there is a story, and so we want to explore a little more of that Joseph Campbell, big picture story. Why him? Why that guy? Why is he chosen to save the world?” Source
We’ll also be meeting some new faces when Ash vs Evil Dead returns for Season 3. Per Deadline:
Australian actress Arielle Carver-O’Neill has booked a series regular role on the upcoming third season of Starz’s Ash Vs. Evil Dead. Season 2 of the series, which stars Bruce Campbell and Lucy Lawless, found Ash (Campbell) leaving his beloved Jacksonville and returning to his hometown of Elk Grove. There, he confronts Ruby (Lawless), and the former enemies must form an uneasy alliance as the town becomes the nucleus of evil. Carver-O’Neill plays Brandy, a smart middle-class American high school senior whose life is up-ended when she finds herself caught up in violent demonic events.
We’ll keep you posted on addition Ash vs Evil Dead Season 3 news as details emerge. Stay tuned!
Official Synopsis: Ash has spent the last 30 years avoiding responsibility, maturity and the terrors of the Evil Dead until a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind and Ash becomes mankind’s only hope.
