Until last week, Olivia Munn was literally the only female cast member in Shane Black’s Predator reboot, The Predator, currently filming in Vancouver. Finally, another female has been added to the ensemble: Yvonne Strahovski will play the mother of Jacob Tremblay, a young boy who is somehow caught up in humanity’s battle with the insidious hunter species. If films have shown us anything, it’s that mama bears get furious when monsters harass their cubs (think Ripley in Aliens), so she may end up being the most powerful weapon in the arsenal!
Strahovski, who has had runs on Dexter and 24: Live Another Day, next co-stars in Hulu’s buzzy Margaret Atwood adaptation of The Handmaid’s Tale with Elisabeth Moss and Joseph Fiennes. She also has two movies in the can: He’s Out There, directed by Dennis Iliadis, and the Marc Forster-helmed drama All I See Is You, the latter starring Blake Lively.
Strahovski joins another new arrival to the cast, Alfie Allen, along with Munn, Tremblay, Boyd Holbrook, Sterling K. Brown, Keegan-Michael Key, Trevante Rhodes, and Kyle Strauts.
While there hasn’t been an official announcement regarding a release date, one appeared on The Predator’s IMDB this weekend: February 9th, 2018!
We still can’t confirm if Thomas Jane and/or 50 Cent will actually appear in the film, but the longer their names remain on said IMDB page, the more likely it seems. There’s no trailer yet, but check out the cast photo that was release the day filming commenced.
In the original Predator (Official Synopsis): Dutch (Arnold Schwarzenegger), a soldier of fortune, is hired by the U.S. government to secretly rescue a group of politicians trapped in Guatemala. But when Dutch and his team, which includes weapons expert Blain (Jesse Ventura) and CIA agent George (Carl Weathers), land in Central America, something is gravely wrong. After finding a string of dead bodies, the crew discovers they are being hunted by a brutal creature with superhuman strength and the ability to disappear into its surroundings.
Ironically, director Shane Black had a bit-part in Predator, alongside Schwarzenegger. He played Hawkins who was, unfortunately, the aggressive alien’s first kill.
