It may have gotten off to a slow and somber start, but Season 7 of The Walking Dead is shaping up to be the best yet. Act 1 of New Best Friends was kind of ho-hum: More simmering of the tension at The Kingdom between those who want to fight the Saviors and those who don’t, but Act 2 was fantastic. The new group of semi-mute, monosyllabic survivors who rally around the matriarch Jadis are fascinating—and that gladiator zombie they keep in the trash arena, Winslow, was beyond cool. I can’t wait to learn more about this crew (affectionately dubbed The Scavengers and/or The Heapsters).
If Jadis looks familiar to you, you might remember actress Pollyanna McIntosh playing the titular role in Lucky McKee’s The Woman, a controversial film released in 2011. McIntosh played a feral woman who is captured and abused by a controlling sadist. Check her out in the trailer below.
Act 3 included a reunion between Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Carol (Melissa McBride); if this scene didn’t bring a tear to an eye, then you must already be undead. Despite some inter-tribal squabbling among the Alexandrians, there’s a triumphant feel as our heroes return home to regroup. Of course, victories are short-lived in the world on The Walking Dead, and happiness is fleeting.
As the preview and the clip below for next week’s episode (Hostiles and Calamities) prove, tensions are running sky-high at The Savior’s compound—and Negan (Jeffery Dean Morgan) is pissed!
