While people I speak to aren’t exactly looking forward to it, many are curious about the Inside remake. The original film, written and directed by Alexandre Bustillo & Julien Maury and released in 2007, is considered a crown jewel of the New French Extremity subgenre popular in the mid-2000s. Another extreme French film, Martyrs, got a disastrous, watered-down remake in 2016, and many fear Inside will suffer the same fate.

There are reasons to be cautiously optimistic; the Inside remake is produced by the Spanish team behind the [REC] franchise. Hopefully, European sensibilities will keep this film from repeating the mistakes made by the Martyrs remake team. We’ll know for sure when Inside final hits US shores on January 18th via VOD.
