“It is over for The Terminator and Arnold.”
This quote from a source at Paramount, relayed through the New York Daily News, has been volleyed across the Internet along with headlines lamenting the franchise’s demise. The problem is, this quote comes after a lengthy discussion on the future of the franchise, during which producer and CEO of Skydance Media, David Ellison, touted the property’s bright future:
In an interview with Collider, Ellison teased at some major developments to come with the franchise.
“I will say we have resolved the future of the franchise and believe me it’s an incredibly bright future,” Ellison said. “I think where it’s going will be the continuation of what the fans really wanted since T2.”
Ellison also said that a major announcement regarding the future of the franchise will be coming sometime this year.
The confusion seems to be over the fact that Arnold Schwarzenegger will not be returning to the franchise. While the NY Daily was not misquoted, it is a somewhat confusing statement (especially when pulled out of context); a less opaque wording could have been: “It’s over for Arnold in The Terminator franchise.”
