Currently at an impressive 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, Mandy is a new film from director Panos Cosmatos (Beyond the Black Rainbow). Following an impressive showing at this year’s Sundance Film Festival (where it premiered to rave reviews), the project was acquired by RLJE Films and is scheduled for a summer release this year.
Mandy stars Oscar-winner Nicolas Cage (Leaving Las Vegas), Andrea Riseborough (Oblivion), Bill Duke (Predator) and Vikings‘ Linus Roache. The film was written by Cosmatos and Aaron Stewart-Ahn.
Per Mark Ward (Chief Acquisitions Officer for RLJE): “The best reviewed movie at Sundance is also one of Cage’s most extraordinary performances, reinvigorating our love and appreciation of him. Panos’ is a truly visionary filmmaker and we are beyond excited to unleash Mandy to the masses.”
Official Synopsis: “Outsiders Red Miller and Mandy Bloom lead a loving and peaceful existence. When their pine-scented haven is savagely destroyed by a cult led by the sadistic Jeremiah Sand, Red is catapulted into a phantasmagoric journey filled with bloody vengeance and laced with fire.”
With Cage’s horror film Mom and Dad already released in January, it appears to be quite a year for Cage in the horror/thriller genre.
Trivia: Panos Cosmatos is the son of late director George P. Cosmatos — the filmmaker behind such 80s flicks as Leviathan, Cobra and Rambo: First Blood Part II.
