This is the time of year when the folks over at Netflix begin to forget all about us horror fanatics. Sure, Thanksgiving and Christmas are a lot of fun, and sure there are some enjoyable pictures to take in for both holidays. But someone apparently forgot that there are also some insanely thrilling horror films centered on these holidays as well. This November we’re seeing virtually zero new quality additions to the streaming lineup, which is sure to leave us weirdos in a state of utter depression.
Knowing all of this, you should expect our highlights to be quite limited. In fact, the vast majority of movies we’ll be bringing to your attention have all spent plenty of time on Netflix. Their return is of course welcome, but there’s no getting beyond the fact that we want some new horror thrown in the mix. We’re not going to get it this month, but we can point you in the direction of a handful of pictures that you should definitely take the time to soak up. They’re not half bad, to say the least!
Let us Prey
Rachel, a rookie cop, is about to begin her first night shift in a neglected police station in a Scottish, backwater town. The kind of place where the tide has gone out and stranded a motley bunch of the aimless, the forgotten, the bitter-and-twisted who all think that, really, they deserve to be somewhere else. They all think they’re there by accident and that, with a little luck, life is going to get better. Wrong, on both counts. Six is about to arrive – and All Hell Will Break Loose!
In a massive, mysterious chamber, fifty strangers awaken to find themselves trapped with no memory of how they got there. Organized in an inward-facing circle and unable to move, they quickly learn that every two minutes, one of them must die… executed by a strange device in the center of the room. At first, the attacks seem random, but soon the strangers realize that they, as a group, have the power to decide who will be the next to be killed. A vote. A chance to control the machine. But how can they choose who deserves to die? And what happens when there’s only one person left? Circle is a film about people, how they value one another, and what they do under the worst possible circumstances. A film about what makes us human – who we are, what we believe, and ultimately, the lengths we will go to save ourselves.
