Bloody Disgusting recently ran a photo (below) that Trick ‘r Treat director Michael Dougherty posted on social media, along with the caption: “110 Days til Halloween. @trickrtreat”. Since the picture was of the film’s iconic sack-faced trickster Sam (short for Samhain), they speculated Dougherty was announcing a sequel to the lauded 2007 horror anthology; they backpedaled a few hours later:
Update: I just spoke with Michael Dougherty and I can confirm that this is NOT from ‘Trick ‘r Treat 2’. However, I will be able to speak about what it’s from once the embargo I’m currently under has lifted.
So what the heck is going on? Is Dougherty yanking our collective chains? Could this possibly be a spin-off or even a TV series? And will this mystery project really culminate by Halloween? Time will tell, and we’ll keep you posted as details emerge.
InTrick ‘r Treat: Five interwoven stories that occur on Halloween: An everyday high school principal has a secret life as a serial killer; a college virgin might have just met the guy for her; a group of teenagers pull a mean prank; a woman who loathes the night has to contend with her holiday-obsessed husband; and a mean old man meets his match with a demonic, supernatural trick-or-treater.
