You don’t have to be a horror fan or even a huge movie buff to feel shock and disgust over the recent allegations against elite Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein. The severity and quantity of crimes he purportedly committed over the past 30 years are unforgivable, and these revelations will surely destroy the man’s legacy, if not the entire company he co-founded with his brother, Bob.
When the crimes of Jeepers Creepers writer/director Victor Slava’s criminal past (involving sexual misconduct, committed in 1989) became widely known, horror fans were incensed; many demanded a boycott of all Salva’s films and even effectively shut down the world premiere of Jeepers Creepers 3 last September.
Now, fans are wondering what an appropriate reaction to the Weinstein revelations should be. Indie horror icon and filmmaker Jen Soska (one-half of the “Twisted Twins”) suggests hitting Weinstein where it really hurts: His wallet:
Further thoughts on Harvey Weinstein and the predators and their protectors/enablers/apologists….
Let’s stop watching their shit. Yes. Even if you like it, make a stand. Stopping their cash flow is a message they will receive. With their power and influence, they’ve been able to manipulate the law and silence victims for decades. We can stop this. We can stop watching content made by these monsters and force them out of their positions. (Source)
Purging everything Harvey Weinstein-related is no easy task, but fans should at least be aware of his influence when deciding how to spend our future dollars. Dimension Films, one of horror’s most established studios, is owned by The Weinstein Company; this means that even if Harvey didn’t produce a film under Dimension’s banner directly, he still profits from every movie in their stable. Still, if you want to specifically avoid films that the disgraced mogul actually produced, I’ve assembled a list below.
You’ll probably be surprised by how many horror movies Weinstein has been involved in, but keep in mind, this is just a fraction of the man’s overall filmography. He’s produced even more comedies, dramas, thrillers, and even documentaries. For a complete list of movies produced by Harvey Weinstein, visit his IMDB Page, HERE.
It pains me that Weinstein produced some of my favorites, including 2007’s The Mist and the entire Scream franchise. Give the list a read and let us know what you think in the Comments section. Will you be avoiding the films of Harvey Weinstein in the future? Let’s discuss!
