The latest trailer for War for the Planet of the Apes doesn’t have any of the explosive action of the previous promos, but it will give you the feels—all of them! Get ready to meet Nova, played by child actress Amiah Miller. Fans of the original Planet of the Apes (released in 1969 and starring Charlton Heston & Roddy McDowall) will remember that Nova is the name of George Taylor’s (Heston) mute companion through the wasteland; in that film, an adult Nova is played Linda Harrison.
Does this mean that the current Planet of the Apes reboot hasn’t been a reboot at all? Has this trilogy actually been a prequel story in disguise and, if so, can we expect the current saga to run into the front end of the original Apes franchise? If that’s the case, there could be an astronaut from decades past crash-landing back to Earth (what’s left of it) in the installment after War… Yes, I’m getting way ahead of myself. It’s what I do.
Grab a tissue and get ready to find out how Nova got her name, and how the orphan found an unlikely family among an army of apes.
