The Comic-Con trailer for Stranger Things Season 2, released in July, kicks off with the kids having a blast in a video game arcade before Will (Noah Schnapp) slips (briefly) back into the Upside Down. Will comes face to face with a humongous beast before being snapped back into reality, and the trailer continues to thrill and excite fans of Netflix’s mega-hit horror/sci-fi series. Check it out.
I must have watched this trailer 5 times before it occurred to me that the specific game the kids are playing may in fact be a huge clue regarding plot-points of Season 2. Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) is playing Dragon’s Lair by Starcom, released in 1983; the game signaled a reinvigoration of the sagging video game market by utilizing laser disc technologies to vastly enhance graphics capabilities. But that’s not where the connection to Stranger Things Season 2 lies.

While we have been given an extensive synopsis for Stranger Things Season 2, returning to Netflix on October 27th, the plot description for Dragon’s Lair may actually be more telling in terms of what may play out.
Dragon’s Lair Synopsis: The attract mode of the game displays various short vignettes of gameplay accompanied by the following narration: “Dragon’s Lair: The fantasy adventure where you become a valiant knight [Dirk the Daring], on a quest to rescue the fair princess from the clutches of an evil dragon.
