Despite a leaked script and actors who have been loose-lipped with details, little is known about the plot of Shane Black’s Predator reboot, The Predator, hitting US Theaters in August. Jake Busey is the latest member of the sizable ensemble, and he recently dished specifics with the folks at Pop Culture.

Most titillating, Busey claims the new film will reveal the motivations of the dread-locked alien hunters, explaining why they find themselves drawn to planet Earth. Also, Busey clarified when the film takes place within the entire Predator franchise.
Jake said the new film is set after the second one. Predator 2 was released in 1990, but took place in a 1997 Los Angeles ravaged by gang violence. The third movie, 2010’s Predators, took place on another world and wasn’t set in a specific year. So, The Predator will take place between those two movies.
“This one definitely falls in line with the original franchise in that it does focus on the technology that the Predators have,” Jake said of the new film. “It focuses on what the goal of the Predators is, and what their modus operandi, and why they come to the planet, and that type of thing. It’s definitely in line with the original franchise.”

In the original Predator (Official Synopsis): Dutch (Arnold Schwarzenegger), a soldier of fortune, is hired by the U.S. government to secretly rescue a group of politicians trapped in Guatemala. But when Dutch and his team, which includes weapons expert Blain (Jesse Ventura) and CIA agent George (Carl Weathers), land in Central America, something is gravely wrong. After finding a string of dead bodies, the crew discovers they are being hunted by a brutal creature with superhuman strength and the ability to disappear into its surroundings.
Ironically, director Shane Black had a bit-part in Predator, alongside Schwarzenegger. He played Hawkins who was, unfortunately, the aggressive alien’s first kill.
