The most exciting horror news of the month so far is, hands down, John Carpenter’s announcement that a new Halloween movie is in the works. Halloween 2018 (eyeing an October 2018 release date) will be directed by David Gordon Green based on a script penned by Danny McBride. John Carpenter is producing (along with Jason Blum) and he’s also hinted he will compose the film’s score. It’s also been reported that Halloween 2018 is not a reboot; it’s actually a sequel that will pick up after the events of Halloween II.
Earlier this week, I played “Armchair Casting Director” with a list of actors I thought could play Dr. Loomis in Halloween 2018 (provided the character is indeed returning). One actor who didn’t make my list was Robert Englund, the actor who has become synonymous with Freddy Krueger from the Nightmare on Elm Street Franchise. Apparently, so folks are so keen to see Englund as Loomis, they’ve launched a petition.
Official Statement: This petition was created to allow fans of the Halloween series a direct say in a very salient part of the next film.
In short, we think none other than the original Freddy Krueger himself, Robert Englund, would be the perfect person to play Dr. Samuel Loomis. He has the look, the age, and the of course, the acting skills, to play Michael Myers most dedicated foe.
Of course, this is considering the fact that Dr. Loomis might not play a role in the next film, and Mr. Englund could ultimately decide he isn’t up for the part – IF it’s available.
So with all things considered, let’s make this happen Blumhouse!
If you agree that Englund would make for an excellent Dr. Loomis, you can add your name to the petition, HERE.
We’ll keep you posted on Halloween 2018 as additional details emerge. Stay tuned!
