Covering the turbulent production of Jeepers Creepers 3 has been a slippery slope for us here at Horror Freak News. Excitement for the long-gestating 3rd installment in the franchise launched in 2001 has been tempered by writer/director Victor Salva’s shameful past. For those who are unaware, Salva was convicted of sexually assaulting a young actor on the set of Clownhouse in 1988 for the purposes of producing child pornography. And while Salva served his time, many believe that his crimes are unforgivable—and no one here is going to argue that point.
At the same time, Horror Freak News is a living history of our beloved genre. So while some sites are refusing to run news related to Jeepers Creepers 3, we believe that the production has a place in the historical record. The fact that there are serious crimes associated with the film makes it more important to bring balanced reporting. To that end, we will never directly encourage any of our readers to patronize this film when it comes to fruition.

To stand in solidarity with those who believe Jeepers Creepers 3 should not be made, we are directing readers to a petition on Change.org which is calling for a boycott of the film. It reads:
Jeepers Creepers 3 is currently in production. The director and creator of this franchise, Victor Salva, used his position to rape a 12-year-old boy in 1988 during the filming of the movie Clownhouse. He was convicted and served a measly 15 months in prison. As the three largest movie theater chains in the US, I urge you to not show this movie at your theaters. The profits from Jeepers Creepers 3 line the pockets of a pedophile. Monsters belong on the screen, not behind the camera. I also urge other members of the horror movie community to take a stance. Spread the word and don’t watch this film!
If you feel strongly that Jeepers Creepers 3 has no place in our modern society, you can add your name to the petition, HERE.
