Fans of American Horror Story were recently reinvigorated by the reveal of Season 7’s title (Cult) and release date. In the days since, we’ve been practically inundated with teasers, almost all of which contain creepy clowns. Another prominent symbol appearing across multiple promos is an octagon which, in this case, symbolized a single unit of honeycomb. This image was utilized with stunning impact in the poster for AHS: Cult, one that brings new meaning to the term “Hive Mind”. Have a look:
This striking and poignant image was actually inspired by a photo-series featuring alternative model Melanie Gaydos. Gaydos, who suffers from a genetic disorder called ectodermal dysplasia, first gained notoriety after appearing in the Rammstein Video Mein Herz Brennt (bottom) and has since become a sought-after figure for her confidence and ability to turn standard concepts of beauty on their head. Check out the shot the inspired the American Horror Story poster:
Ectodermal dysplasia prevents teeth, nails, pores, cartilage, and bones from developing; it’s the same condition that horror icon Michael Berryman (The Hills Have Eyes, Weird Science) suffers from. Hats off to both Gaydos and Berryman, who emerged from difficult childhoods to create careers based on their unique characteristics.
