While Hellraiser purist who can’t accept the role of Pinhead being played by anyone besides Doug Bradley couldn’t be pleased, more opened minded fans of the franchise were pleased by Hellraiser: Judgment, the latest straight-to-DVD chapter written and directed by Gary J. Tunnicliffe. The long-time series FX supervisor recently revealed, however, that there was another Hellraiser film pitched to Dimension/New Line before Judgment went into production.

Official Synopsis: Following the lackluster reception to Hellraiser: Revelations, making another Hellraiser wasn’t a big priority for Dimension, not until the rights reversion deadline was looming over the horizon once more.

Tunnicliffe: “The story was about a psychiatric hospital, and some interns and they’ve been studying these patients who’ve got this kind of shared experience, and we discover it’s all about the Lament Configuration.
“And the doctor who runs the institute is basically collating all of these victims so that he can create his own grimoire [a book of magic or spells] and his information about Pinhead because he wants to encounter the experiences of the Cenobites. And these interns while they’re collating the information from these victims, starts to seep into them, and it’s like that.”
