Though we were originally told to expect Children of the Corn: Runaway, the latest straight-to-DVD installment in the franchise launched in 1984, last year. Then, the downward spiral of The Weinstein Company following the sexual assault scandal surrounding studio head Harvey Weinstein threw the entire production into turmoil.
Today, however, we finally have both a release date and a trailer for the film. While it doesn’t look nearly as unnerving as the original, it still looks worlds better than many of the franchises least popular installments.

Official Synopsis: The plot of Children of the Corn: Runaway follows a young pregnant Ruth who escapes a murderous child cult in a small Midwestern town. She spends the next decade living anonymously in an attempt to spare her son the horrors that she experienced as a child. She lands in the small Oklahoma town, but something is following her. Now, she must confront this evil or lose her child.
The film is directed by John Gulager and stars Marci Miller, Lynn Andrews III, and JR Hatchett.
