Dread Central Presents has been killing it as the marketing and distribution team behind such indie hits as Terrifier, The Lodgers, Imitation Girl, and To Hell and Back: The Kane Hodder Story. The company, which is the horror distribution arm of Epic Pictures, has been acquiring previously completed films from other production companies, but all that’s about to change.
It’s just been announced that Dread Central Presents will be releasing their first original title, a supernatural thriller from Doron and Yoav Paz (JeruZalem) called The Golem. Deadline got the exclusive:
The Golem was shot under secrecy late last year and is slated for a February 2019 release.
The horror is a re-imagining of the old mystical folklore that follows a woman and a tight-knit Jewish community that is besieged by foreign invaders. She conjures a dangerous creature to protect them but it may be more evil than she ever imagined.
“With very few horror films originating in the Middle East, the micro-budget Jeruzalem tapped an underserved market for Jewish folklore,” said [executive producer Shaked] Berenson.
Dread Central Presents will be shopping footage from The Golem to potential buys at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Stay tuned for further news as it emerges!
