Could there be a blood-soaked silver lining to the cancelation of Ash vs Evil Dead?
Here’s what I think: I think Ash vs Evil Dead would never have happened if it wasn’t for Fede Alvarez’s impeccable remake of Sam Raimi’s original Evil Dead. It was this ultra-violent, stylized masterpiece that got us jonesing for more Cabin in the Woods style horror; the cameo of Ash, however brief, let us know he was still alive—and it made us curious.
2 years later, someone turned that curiosity into a pitch that became Ash vs Evil Dead and, over the past 3 seasons, we’ve seen the Groovy One slaying Deadites like a pro, following him for a dilapidated mobile home to the brink of the apocalypse.

When word first hit that Starz had no plans on renewing Ash vs Evil Dead beyond Season 3, Hail Marys came in the form of online petitions and please for Netflix to rescue the series. Alas, all hopes were officially dashed when Bruce Campbell announced that, following the series finale this Sunday, he is officially retiring the character Ashley J. Williams.
If there is a silver lining to the cancelation of Ash vs Evil Dead, it could be a return to the reboot franchise launched by Alvarez in 2013. It’s not like we haven’t been teased by rumors of a crossover over the years; and, most importantly, I don’t think anyone had gotten their fill of Mia, best described as Ash’s counterpart in the film.
Any chance of a sequel to Alvarez’s Evil Dead was obviously shelved when Ash vs Evil Dead began its run in 2015. Now that the show is coming to a conclusion, let’s shake the dust off of that property and get back to work! A reteaming of Alvarez and Jane Levy (whose portrayal of Mia was nothing short of phenomenal) would be the perfect cure for the Ash vs Evil Dead blues.
What do you guys think? Now that Ash vs Evil Dead is ending, would you like to see the Evil Dead franchise continue with Mia? Sound off in the Comments section! And if it’s been a while, check out the trailer and synopsis for 2013’s Evil Dead below.
Official Synopsis: Mia (Jane Levy), a drug addict, is determined to kick the habit. To that end, she asks her brother, David (Shiloh Fernandez), his girlfriend, Natalie (Elizabeth Blackmore) and their friends Olivia (Jessica Lucas) and Eric (Lou Taylor Pucci) to accompany her to their family’s remote forest cabin to help her through withdrawal. Eric finds a mysterious Book of the Dead at the cabin and reads aloud from it, awakening an ancient demon. All hell breaks loose when the malevolent entity possesses Mia.
