The latest news on the upcoming Hellboy reboot we got was that Lionsgate had set a January 2019 release date. Historically, Q1 is not a good time for movies, with studios dumping the films they have the least faith in during the early months of each year. Lead actor David Harbour, however, recently answered questions regarding the film, and it’s clear he’s sincerely excited about what’s in the works.
Here’s what he told Variety at the Dubai International Film Festival:
The darker nature attracted him to rebooting the character, Harbour explained. “These movies have been of a certain brand,” Harbour said. “With ‘Deadpool’ and ‘Logan,’ they are trying to do different things. So we are trying to do our own brand of that.”
He added, “I was really excited by that concept — to make a real monster movie that’s dark and scary and about the end of the world.”
Here’s everything we know about Hellboy so far:
Hellboy will return to the big screen January 11, 2019.
Official plot details haven’t yet been released, however the film will be separate from Guillermo del Toro’s original films. The cast also includes Milla Jovovich as the villainous Blood Queen; Ian McShane as Hellboy’s adopted father, Professor Broom; Daniel Dae Kim as Ben Daimio, an officer at the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense; and American Honey breakout Sasha Lane as Alice Monaghan, who’s rescued by Hellboy from fairies in the comics.
