Need I say more? This is the greatest gore movie ever, and any true horror fan must put this on their list. But it is not for those with weak stomaches… There are real animal slayings. For the 1980s the special effects are mind blowing. I am amazed the special effect and makeup people are not worshiped right now.
The story is about a group of documentary filmers who travel to the Amazon to film some of the cannibalistic tribes who live there. You can guess their fates. But their footage is recovered, and that is the movie, seeing this footage shot by these film makers.
Despite the fact that the plot seems tame from my description, it is nothing close to that. I highly recommend it. It will change your view of gore, and horror movies in general.
This is a 1980 film, from Italian director Ruggero Deodato. When first released, it was seized and was not allowed to be played until certain parts of the film were removed. It can be rented from Netflix (couldn’t find it on Blockbuster) or it can be bought off eBay for cheap. Most current copies include the full footage.
