Fans of the Hellboy movies have been in a state of emotional limbo for months; devastation over Guillermo del Toro’s departure from the franchise he launched has been tempered by news that horror icon Neil Marshall (Dog Soldiers, The Descent) is taking the reins with Stranger Things star David Harbour playing the anger-challenged anti-hero with a humongous fist.

Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen is now in pre-production and the titular Queen has been cast. While she’s an actor horror fans will immediately recognize, we’re used to seeing her playing the hero, not the villain.
Three months after the project was announced with David Harbour (Stranger Things) taking over the role of Mike Mignola’s comic book hero, Hellboy, Milla Jovovich has now been cast to play the movie’s main villain, the titular Blood Queen, the Tracking Board has confirmed.
Jovovich has mainly kept herself busy over the years making Resident Evil movies with her partner, director Paul W.S. Anderson. The sixth and presumably last chapter, called Resident Evil: The Final Chapter failed to find many fans in North America where it grossed less than $27 million. But it grossed $285 million overseas, which means that Screen Gems may think about doing more even if Jovovich and Anderson aren’t interested.
Last week, Ian McShane joined the cast as Hellboy’s adoptive father, Professor Broom, played in the Guillermo del Toro films by the late John Hurt.
Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen goes before the cameras this fall. We’ll keep you posted as additional details emerge. Stay tuned!
