Yesterday, we brought you a ton of new details on Shane Black’s Predator reboot, The Predator, courtesy of Edward James Olmos, who’s playing General to a special unit of mentally unstable soldiers. His most surprising comments had to do with the tone of the film, which he describes as incredibly comedic. (You can read all of his comments in the link below.)

Today, we’re getting word of fan reactions to test screenings—and they are incredibly mixed. YouTuber Mr. H has scoured the internet for leaks and what he’s unearthed is illuminating if slightly troubling. While he’s able to confirm that aspects of the leaked script have been changed (specifically relating to a proposed cameo for Arnold Schwarzenegger), but it mostly remains the same.
Bottom line: Even those who liked the film said it took a while to adjust to the comedic tone of The Predator. Those who disliked the film really hated it, advising would-be moviegoers to avoid it at all cost and calling it a radical departure from established Predator mythologies. Whether 20th Century Fox is planning edits or reshoots in response to audience feedback is unknown, but considering the film isn’t being released until August, it’s certainly an option.

20th Century Fox CEO Stacy Snider recently sat down for an in-depth interview with Variety.
“We’ve got a Predator film coming out that is unexpected and utterly fresh. I just imagined that it would take 500 hours to read the script — that it would be interior jungle, exterior more jungle and then fighting happens, but Emma [Watts] went out and recruited Shane Black. From the first page, it didn’t read like a Predator film. It’s set in suburbia. There’s a little boy and his dad at the center of the action.”
The Predator’s sizable ensemble cast includes Thomas Jane, Jake Busey, Trevante Rhodes, Boyd Holbrook, Jacob Tremblay, Olivia Munn, Keegan-Michael Key, and Augusto Aguilera (and not Arnold Schwarzenegger *wink*wink*).
In the original Predator (Official Synopsis): Dutch (Arnold Schwarzenegger), a soldier of fortune, is hired by the U.S. government to secretly rescue a group of politicians trapped in Guatemala. But when Dutch and his team, which includes weapons expert Blain (Jesse Ventura) and CIA agent George (Carl Weathers), land in Central America, something is gravely wrong. After finding a string of dead bodies, the crew discovers they are being hunted by a brutal creature with superhuman strength and the ability to disappear into its surroundings.
Ironically, director Shane Black had a bit-part in Predator, alongside Schwarzenegger. He played Hawkins who was, unfortunately, the aggressive alien’s first kill.
