Fans of the dark and fantastic anime Attack on Titan, based on the bestselling Japanese manga, had to wait over two years between the show’s first two seasons. True, we had a couple of live-action feature films to keep us entertained during the especially long hiatus, but it wasn’t that same; the two stories are vastly different, and fans wanted to get back to the characters we had formed such intense bonds with in 2015.

Season 2 of Attack on Titan is still running on Adult Swim (with a Blu-ray/DVD release planned in the not-too-distant-future, courtesy of FUNimation); but even though the show is nearing the end of its second run, fans can rest assured that the show will go on—and we won’t have to wait years for the next chapter. Anime Corner was first to announce that Attack on Titan Season 3 will indeed arrive in 2018 (through the publication of official Tweets and Facebook Videos):

Official Synopsis: Many years ago, the last remnants of humanity were forced to retreat behind the towering walls of a fortified city to escape the massive, man-eating Titans that roamed the land outside their fortress. Only the heroic members of the Scouting Legion dared to stray beyond the safety of the walls — but even those brave warriors seldom returned alive. Those within the city clung to the illusion of a peaceful existence until the day that dream was shattered, and their slim chance at survival was reduced to one horrifying choice: kill — or be devoured!
