Look out online voyeurs, identity thieves, and hackers: CUJO is waiting to devour you! No, I’m not talking about a sequel or a remake to Stephen King’s nihilistic story of a rabid St. Bernard; I’m talking about a security firewall, just released by Amazon. The name, of course, can hardly be a coincidence.
CUJO is a “Smart Internet Security Firewall with FREE SUBSCRIPTION That Protects Your Network from Viruses and Hacking.” It’s a cute little bugger that plugs right into your router. CUJO is the perfect (if slightly morbid and tongue-in-cheek) name for a security system, but were the folks at Amazon really referencing King’s Cujo? I say: Hell yes!

Despite the fact that Amazon’s CUJO is spelled in all caps, it doesn’t appear to be an acronym for anything. As for the root of the word/name Cujo, as it could pertain to a different subtext, all roads start and end with Stephen King. The author essentially invented the name. Per IMDB: “A rumor has circulated that “Cujo” is an ancient Indian word meaning “unstoppable force.” In reality, Stephen King made it up himself when writing the novel.”
Cujo is one of King’s tales that takes place in Castle Rock, meaning the infamous Rottweiler may be appearing in the upcoming Hulu series (Castle Rock) co-produced by J.J. Abrams. King has also hinted that Cujo will be making a cameo in Nikolaj Arcel’s Dark Tower, slated to hit US Theaters on August 4th. King published Cujo in 1981 and a feature film directed by Lewis Teague and starring Dee Wallace followed in 1983. Check out the trailer and synopsis for the movie below.
Official Synopsis: In this tale of a killer canine, man’s best friend turns into his worst enemy. When sweet St. Bernard Cujo is bitten by a bat, he starts behaving oddly and becomes very aggressive. Stay-at-home mom Donna (Dee Wallace) gets caught in Cujo’s crosshairs on a fateful errand with her son, Tad (Danny Pintauro). Stuck in their tiny car, Donna and Tad have a frightening showdown with the crazed animal.
